The problem nobody owned
Three older women selling produce in Kalerwe Market were receiving more mobile money payments from customers but regularly depended on younger traders to check balances, confirm transactions, and identify suspicious messages.
What people actually did
A 24-year-old trader who worked two stalls away spent two afternoons showing them how to check transaction messages, confirm balances, recognise common scam messages, and use their PIN without sharing it with anyone. They practised using small transactions between their own phones.
What changed
By the end of the week, all three women could confirm payments and check their balances without asking another trader for help. One of them also showed her sister what she had learned.
What they'd tell the next person
You do not need to organise a training. Sometimes helping three people understand one useful thing is enough.
